Wessex Border Collie Club maintains an approved list of judges.  Membership of the Club is not a prerequisite for inclusion of the lists.  Should you wish to be considered for inclusion on our judging list, please submit your CV to the club secretary sam.tydeman@btconnect.com and it will be brought before the club committee.  

It is recommended that judges already on our list, submit an up to date CV once a year.

A1 List - Judges who have previously been approved to award CCs in a given breed and have carried out the appointment.  

A2 List - Judges who, if invited to judge by a Society, would in principle be approved by The Kennel Club to award CCs in a given breed for that occasion.

A3 List - Judges who are recommended by a Breed Council or Society as being suitable to award CCs in the breed, but not yet approved by The Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 list.

B List - Judges who have been approved by Breed Councils or Societies to judge at Shows without CCs or Open Shows.

C List - Any aspirant judges who do not fall into any of the above categories.

Kennel Club's A2 Procedures

Members who are currently on Wessex B or A3 list may apply for the club to support an A2 application

Kennel Club's JCF (due 2019)

The Kennel Club's new Judges Competency Framework which is due to be implemented in 2019.  It outlines the route someone would need to follow in order to be able to judge various types of shows up to and including tickets for their breed and other breeds.

JUDGES LIST CRITERIA

A1 List (breed Specialists and non-Breed Specialists)

For Judges who have previously been approved by the Kennel Club to award CCs in the Breed and have carried out the appointment and to have the support of Wessex Border Collie Club.

A2 List (Breed Specialists and non-Breed Specialists)

For persons who fulfil all the requirements for the A3 List and who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements and accepted by the Kennel Club for inclusion on the A2 List and have the support of Wessex Border Collie Club.

A3 List (Breed Specialists)

For persons who are fully competent to award CCs in the Breed but are not yet approved by the Kennel Club for inclusion on the A2 List.

  1. Minimum of seven years judging experience in the Breed and have the support of Wessex Border Collie Club.

  2. To have judged a Border Collie Breed Club Open Show.

  3. To have judged a minimum of forty classes in the Breed at Open Show level.

  4. To have judged a minimum of 160 Border Collies – dogs and bitches.

  5. To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures

  6. To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.

  7. To have attended a Conformation and Movement “Hands-on Assessment” conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment

  8. To have attended a Border Collie seminar run in accordance with the Kennel Club Code of

    Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.

  9. Save in exceptional circumstances any first time candidate is expected to have been an owner or breeder of at least three dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book.

  10. To have stewarded at 12 shows.

  11. Must be prepared to write a critique for the weekly dog press.

 

A3 List (Non-Breed Specialists)

  1. Minimum of seven years judging experience in any Breed – to include five years in this Breed – and have the support of Wessex Border Collie Club.

  2. To have judged at a Border Collie Breed Club Open Show.

  3. To have judged a minimum of forty classes of Border Collies at Open Show level.

  4. To have judged a minimum of 160 Border Collies – dogs and bitches.

  5. To have awarded CCs in at least one other Breed.

  6. To have attended a Border Collie Breed Club Breed seminar run in accordance with the Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable

  7. To have attended a Conformation and Movement ‘Hands on Assessment’ conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment.

  8. Save in exceptional circumstances any first time candidate is expected to have been an owner or breeder of at least three dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book.

  9. To have stewarded for a minimum of three years and at twelve shows.

  10. Must be prepared to write a critique for the weekly dog press.

 

B List (Breed Specialists)

For persons who, in the opinion of Wessex Border Collie Club, are fully competent to judge the Breed without CCs.

  1. To have judged the Breed for a minimum of four years

  2. To have judged a minimum of 15 classes of Border Collies at Open Show level.

  3. To have judged a minimum of 60 Border Collies – dogs and bitches

  4. To have attended a Border Collie Breed Club Breed seminar run in accordance with the Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.

 

B List (Non-Breed Specialists)

 

For persons who, in the opinion of Wessex Border Collie Club, are fully competent to judge the Breed without CCs.

  1. To have judged the Breed for a minimum of four years

  2. To have judged a minimum of 15 classes of Border Collies at Open Show level.

  3. To have judged a minimum of 60 Border Collies – dogs and bitches.

  4. To have attended a Border Collie Breed Club Breed seminar run in accordance with the Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.

 

C List (Breed and Non-Breed Specialists)

For aspirant judges who have shown an interest in the Breed and have the support of Wessex Border Collie Club. List would include persons who have judged the Breed at Limited and Open Show level but do not yet qualify for the B List.
